GAS PRICE INCREASE REMINDER

2/3/2021

REMINDER - THE RATES WERE ADDED TO THE BILLS MARCH OF 2020.

PRESS RELEASE – PANHANDLE TRANSPORTATION RATE INCREASE

The pipeline serving the Village of Rossville, Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company (Panhandle), filed for a rate increase to its customers at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in the Fall of 2019. That rate increase, a 400%+ increase in the transportation rate,  Village of Rossvillewent into effect on the March 2020 bill to the Village of Rossville. I stress that this is an increase in the transportation fee, and not to the price of the natural gas commodity itself.

The Village of Rossville joined with other municipalities to contest this fee increase in an ongoing rate case at the FERC in which the lawfulness of Panhandle's rate increase is being determined. We do not know how long that process will take, but the per the rate case process via FERC, PEPL has been imposing this transportation increase each month since March 2020. If any aspect of our opposition in this rate case is successful, Panhandle will have to refund any excess charges, plus accrued interest, that were imposed as of March 2020. Please know that the Village of Rossville along with many other municipalities is fighting this egregious increase levied by Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company so that we may keep our natural gas rates low.
